The number 1 problem with businesses investing in websites today is that they fail to invest in marketing. Websites don’t market themselves so if you want your website to work effectively you need to invest in marketing.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve spent $500 or $50,000 on website, if you don’t market it you’re not going to get the visitors. When considering getting a website built you need to factor into your budget marketing. And I don’t mean $50 to every $1,000 you invest in the website. Marketing is equally as important as the website itself. What good is a website if it’s not getting found?
Where to market?
The best, most effective place to market your website is online. Why? It’s simple, people are already on the internet ready to look at your site. If you market your website on say a billboard, you’re requiring the people seeing the billboard to remember the website and then find time to visit when they return home. Your success rate is much lower and their is no way to see where those visitors have come from.
Where online?
There is no one place to effectively market your website. For one business it might be right to market on Google, Yahoo, Bing and Facebook, for another Google may be the only worth while solution. It’s all about knowing your market and knowing how to reach them. There may some sites that are relevant for your market that you may affiliate with or buy banner ads for. Get inside your markets head, find where they are visiting and try to entice them to your site.
The more eyes isn’t necessarily better
Just because you’re getting thousands of hits a day it may not mean you’re marketing well. You need to make sure your visitors are relevant – make sure you have a good statistics software to check where your traffic is coming from, what they are viewing, how long they are viewing it for and whether you are getting high bounce rate. If you have forms or products on your site you can set-up conversion tracking to see how many visitors are purchasing or filling in forms compared to the number of visitors you’re getting.
